CUSTOM CAKE FAQs

Who is Coco & Eve?

Coco and Eve are nicknames for May May’s two daughters, Chloe and Evelyn!

Where are you located?

We are based in Chicago. As of 8/31, we are a Cottage (home-based) bakery located in the Bridgeport neighborhood, 60616.

Do you have a retail shop? Can I walk in and buy cakes & sweets?

Not at this time!

What is a Cottage Bakery?

We are now a Cottage business (home-based) bakery and a registered business with the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois. Our products are produced in a home kitchen not inspected by a health department that may also process common food allergens. If you have safety concerns, contact your local health department.

How do I order your Signature cakes?

We have a few Signature cakes (currently our Tiramisu and Matcha Tiramisu) available on select weeks. Please visit our Order Site for info and to order.

You can add ONE simple inscription such as a name or age, or add an upgraded cake topper.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

At this time, we do not offer vegan, gluten-free, etc., options. Our cakes are baked in a kitchen that contains nuts, and our products may contain, or come into contact with milk, eggs, wheat, nuts, soy, and other allergens. Please notify your guests if they have allergies.

What is your payment/retainer policy?

Custom Cakes: For custom orders under $500, a 25% retainer is required to book your custom cake. The retainer “retains our services” and is deducted from the full price of the order and is non-refundable. This policy allows us to specifically reserve that day and time slot for your cake and will help cover lost revenue in the event of cancellation.

For custom orders over $500, a 40% retainer is required to book your order, for the reasons listed above.

Do I need to refrigerate the cake?

Click here for our cake care guidelines.

Yes, cakes should be in the refrigerator at all times until as close to set up/serving time as possible. For cakes with mousse fillings, it is advisable to leave them at room temperature for no longer than 2 hours. If buttercream fillings, it can be at room temperature for 3 - 4 hours, or longer depending on the temp of the room. If your event is outside on a warm/hot day, please keep your cake inside and in the fridge for as long as possible! Please discuss the best options with us!

Can you replicate a cake I found online from another bakery?

We love to see the inspiration photos that you send us so we have a direction and starting point. But we value our ability to put our own artistic spin on our cakes and products so they won’t be identical.
